Sugar Cane Train

For something different to do one day, we decided to take the girls on the Sugar Cane Train. From our condo and hotel we would hear the train whistle but have never ridden on it until now. It was great just watching to see how excited both girls were.

Our train as it pulled into Puukolii Station. Sophia was so excited that she pretty much stood in one spot staring at the train. I was kind of worried that the whistle would upset her but she was all for it!
Sadie sitting on the pavement watching the train as it drove through the station to turn around.

Both girls were given a lovely kukui nut bracelet from Grandma Pat and Sophia was so proud to be wearing hers.

All of us on the train, with Tyson taking the picture. Lindsay was a bit under the weather on this day so she stayed home and rested. (Sophia, Max and Lindsay all got a 24 hour stomach bug within a day of each other. It was not pleasant but at least it was short and the next day they were all back at 'er.)
We were not travelling very fast at all but this photo sure makes it look that way.

Sophia spend half the ride on Papa Max's knee and the other half bravely sitting on her own. She was so excited to sit by herself just like a big girl!

Then Sadie came to keep her company for a minute or so. I like how Sophia has protectively got her arm around Sadie...

At one point the train crosses over a wooden trestle and releases a bunch of steam into the valley below.

Sophia liked to pretend to pull the whistle...At the stop in Lahaina, the engine drives ahead onto a turntable to spin it around so it can head back towards Kaanapali. It was really neat to see one of those in action.

We are going to have to hit the train next time we are in Maui ... which I hope is sooner rather than later! Looks like you guys had a great trip!
