Traffic is Moscow is interesting. To get anywhere from Aksakovo to the city can take anywhere from 1 hour upwards. There is a map you can download for your smart phones that tells you which roads are green (good traffic), yellow (slow but moving) or red (stopped or crawling along). Everytime, before you leave a location, the phone gets checked and the route is decided based on the map. We have gone upwards of 20km out of our way because it is green versus going a direct route that is red.
Sveta has been taking a dance class and invited me to join her. We have gone at least once and sometimes twice a week since I arrived here. This above traffic jam was our first drive out to the dance class. We detoured from the normal route, due to traffic and happened upon this.This is on a two lane (one each way) road near Sheremetevo Airport. You will notice that there are three lanes going one way when there should be one. The 'accident' was a little red car (which apparently are trouble here), which cut in front of a truck and got squished, a little. The same accident, with another two cars added into the crash, was still here when we returned after the dance class, about two hours later. This trip is about 50 km and it took us upwards of two hours!!!
Another Moscow traffic jam. This is usually a 3 lane road, made into about 6! I have never seen other cars so close as this while moving along. There were quite a few times that I thought we were going to be hit...
Traffic jam on the MKAD, which is the ring road around the perimeter of Moscow. Some of the worst traffic jams are here and the overpasses are quite spaced in places so you can sometimes get stuck on here for quite a while.
An uncontrolled intersection in a little village just on the border of the city. It is a typical single lane road and there are three lanes trying to turn left while the white truck is trying to go straight!!! I really am amazed that there aren't more accidents here...
This was one of the accidents right after the bridge to get us back to Aksakovo. It took us over an hour to got the 17km from the MKAD to the house. This one is three lanes that soon go down to two. This accident took up 2.5 of the 3 lanes!
Another 2 lane highway on our way home from Sergeyiv Posad. I think this is the only place that you get dirty looks and honked at if you have car troubles and have to pull into the shoulder as the shoulder is often used as another lane. In this case the dirt is again used as another lane:)
These two videos were taken on one of the streets in Moscow while we were there. It is of the same accident but from two different angles. It was a Nissan GT-R that lost control and hit the parked cars. Of the parked cars, one of them ended up completely upside down on top of two other cars!!! Thankfully nobody was badly injured in these...
Watch closely in this one as one of the tires, from the Nissan I thought, ends up flying in the air. People here drive fast, very fast, if they can and it can definitely be quite crazy. (It happens around 30 ish seconds in. Sorry didn't realize that the clip was 6 minutes long...)
