This has got to be the most difficult post that I have ever had to do.
September 10, 2011 we lost one of the pillars of our family, Max's Mom, Vera. We will take some solace in knowing that Vera spent her last summer doing exactly what she loved, being with all of her family. I knew that our trip was very special but now words cannot describe how much it meant to all of us. Hopefully it will be something that with pictures and talk, Sophia will remember her time with her Baba Vera. So much of Sophia's Russian, she learned from playing games with Vera. Also knowing that Vera was doing exactly what she loved so very much when she passed, spending time at the beach with her friends.

This was one of Vera's favorite pictures. She had it in two different places in her apartment. Two pieces of a puzzle, matched together, Vera and Sophia.
Christmas Eve, 2009
Christmas Day, 2009. This is how so many of us have and will remember Vera. With a smile so large that you can't help but smile too.
Below are a few pictures that we took, of pictures, of a young and always beautiful Vera.
Another famous Vera smile. Starting at the top right, Vladimir, Valentina (Vasiliy's brother and sister-in-law), Vera, Vasily, Sasha (Vera's brother) and three of their friends.
In looking at the pictures of Vera when she was young, I noticed so many similarities to Sophia. The looks on their faces, mannerisms and poses. This was Vera with her Baba. Sophia did this exact move to Max a couple of weeks ago, exactly.
Vera and her Baba again. So much like Sophia.
This one, I can really see Max too.
And here.
Such a beautiful girl and beautiful lady.
This pose made me laugh as this is the exact same pose as Sophia always does, including the look on her face. Priceless. Some things are just family traits.
Denis, Vera and Max. Can you tell where Max gets his big toothy smile from?
University picture, circa 1960's.
After our trip this summer, Vera organized all of her pictures and photo albums. The entire top row was a collage of my family's first trip to Russia in 2005. It was as special to Vera as it was to all of us...
Vera, we will miss you every day. There is so much of our lives that you have shaped and we will remember those forever. My love of fashion, the joy in laughter and all of the great times we had together both in Canada and in Russia. While you are gone in the physical sense, you are now always with us, as we are with you. Rest well and I hope you enjoy the shopping in heaven, (I am sure everything will be on sale)!
