Cold, Cold Cabin

Over the holidays we were able to make a couple of trips to the cabin. Despite the cold weather, we did make it outside for a short quad ride and a walk/sled to the beach. It was nice and quiet after a really busy Christmas.

Sophia was so excited to ride the quad that she didn't seem to mind how cold it was (-20ish celsius). She kept asking to go faster, hmm, wonder where she gets that from?

Even whimpy Jen ventured out into the cold. Since it was so cold, we introduced Sophia to Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows. Now everytime it is cold, she asks for it.

Lindsay, Tyson and Sadie joined us for a night. It was even colder this time (-30 as a high and -35 at night). Too cold for the ladies and kids to venture out but the crazy dudes had to go quadding again. The girls grabbed the blanket we had at the patio door (which was keeping the draft out of the room) and decide to play with it.

This trip, when we arrived at the cabin it was a whopping +6 degrees inside. This is with the furnace on almost full blast!!! (The furnace is old and doesn't have a fan so the lower areas don't get heated very well). Once we got the firestove cooking, the temperature warmed up to 22 degrees on the kitchen level and +30 degrees upstairs (I measured it at one point after the fire had burned down and with the upstrairs door wide open, the temp was +27.5 degrees). It was insane considering the largest temperature difference was 60 degrees!!!!! Now, if only that stove would help heat the rest of the darn cabin and not just the top floor....

Sadie had a great time puttering around. I love how blue her eyes are...

She is like this most of the time and the two girls get along fabulously. Sophia even tried to 'ride' Sadie as I guess they were playing horsey, I wonder if Sadie knew that?

We didn't want to leave Sadie out of the hot chocolate and marshmallow tradition. Sophia thought she would help introduce it and I am pretty sure it went down well...
